Select Missing Word

Listen to the last full sentence — the ending must continue its logic.

The rule

  1. 1Ignore the beginning; the answer depends on the final idea.
  2. 2Note whether the speaker is agreeing, warning or concluding.
  3. 3Reject options that repeat earlier detail — endings summarise, they do not repeat.
  4. 4Pick the option that would sound natural if the speaker kept talking.

Worked example

'…and that is why funding alone will not …'

  • Logic: limitation
  • Reject positive endings
  • Choose 'solve the problem'

Answer: solve the problem
