Write Essay
One clear position, two developed reasons, 200-300 words, in a fixed four-paragraph shape.
The rule
- 1Spend 2 minutes on ideas before you write a word. Think through six angles: time, money, health, environment, society, security.
- 2Pick a side and say it in one sentence. Sitting on the fence is the most common low score.
- 3Two body paragraphs, each with the same three moves: topic sentence → explain → example.
- 4Conclusion restates your position in different words. Leave 2 minutes to check spelling, plurals and tenses.
Worked example
Some people think universities should focus on employment skills. Do you agree?
- Position: mostly agree
- Reason 1 (money): graduates carry debt and need work
- Reason 2 (society): employers report skill shortages
Answer: Agree, because graduates need paid work and employers need trained staff.
Three drills
Drill 1. How long should a PTE essay be?
Drill 2. What belongs in a body paragraph, in order?
Drill 3. Which is the strongest opening move?
